Five-day adventures

It's not too early to start planning for summer. Explore the wonderful world of animals through five-day adventures that include animal encounters, behind-the-scenes visits, bus rides, games, and edible food crafts! Choose one or two weeks of fun by grade level:

Summer Camp

  • Little Artists, Grades 1–3

    Each day includes animal encounters and fun art-making experiences.

    Colorful Critters
    Color can be wild or real, but anyway you look at it, color is lots of fun!
    July 28–August 1, August 11–15

    Wild Designs
    We'll focus on designs of nature, with patterns to explore and shapes to discover!
    August 4–8

     

  • Summer Camp: Kindergarten

    An Introduction to the World of Critters

    The ABCs of Animals
    Meet animals from the Zoo's amazing alphabet of critters. Included is an animal feeding and a ride on the Zoo's miniature train.
    August 4–8

    Meet the Beasts
    Meet all kinds of beasts: mammals, birds, and reptiles, too. Get up close to camels and feed treats to the giant tortoises.
    August 11–15

     

  • Summer Camp: 1st Grade

    A Close Look at Mammals

    Mad about Mammals
    Explore spotted cats from the jungle and special encounters with prairie dogs that "dig" life underground as part of the week's fun!
    August 4–8

    Furry Friends
    This camp is all about making friends on the furry side. Tigers, bus rides, and adventures with hippos will leave lasting impressions!

  • Summer Camp: 2nd Grade

    Comparing Flying and Land Animals

    Friends that Fly
    Compare friends that fly with friends that are ground-bound. From a laughing kookaburra to her tree-mate the koala, meet animals of every kind.
    August 4–8

    Things with Wings
    Compare and contrast things with wings and creatures that prefer the ground, from flying monkeys to majestic birds that soar in the sky.

  • Summer Camp: 3rd Grade

    Cool Animals with Bad Reputations

    Animal Outlaws
    Sometimes reptiles, amphibians, and insects are judged wrongly. This class will help to set the facts straight with lizard feedings and giant snake encounters with keepers.
    August 4–8

    Wildlife Weirdos
    Being on the strange side of wildlife makes you extra cool! Treks into the Reptile House, bug catching, and watching snakes being served their special dinners will leave lasting impressions.

  • Summer Camp: 4th Grade

    Adaptations Help Animals Survive

    Parts for Stayin' Alive
    Creature features so unbelievable they seem to be from another world! Encounters with omnivorous bears and an amazing insect are part of the incredible fun.
    August 4–8

    Animal Body Builders
    Tongues that grasp, noses with amazing suction power, insects with horns, and much more will be explored in this fun camp dedicated to a closer look at adaptations.

  • Summer Camp: 5th Grade

    Backstage at the Zoo
    Backstage is where we'll go as we explore the Zoo from the backside of things. We'll look at everything from the most dangerous Zoo jobs to the most glamorous.

    It's an amazing city at the San Diego Zoo, and you'll get an inside look. From keepers to trainers, we'll cover most of the Zoo and discover which career has the most thrills.

    Home Sweet Habitat
    Get ready to explore animal habitats. We'll lure some animals out into the open by feeding them and talk to keepers and look behind the scenes at our man-made habitats.
    August 4–8

    The Weird Ways of Wildlife
    Some animal behaviors look weird, but they're connected to survival. Get to know our gorilla troop with special roof-top viewing, and ride the Skyfari for a closer look at polar bear behavior.
