You're watching our polar bears in their tundra habitat at the Conrad Prebys Polar Bear Plunge! The black spot you might see on some of the bears is part of a study to learn how fast their hair grows. Researchers working with bears in the wild use hair samples to learn about diet, stress and pollutant levels, and more. Knowing how fast the hair grows will help them learn even more.
From 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Pacific Time, you're watching the live cam while it's daytime in San Diego. While it's dark, from 7:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. we rebroadcast that morning's stream.
